Putting people in front of technology

Welcome to the Spring Semester!

Here's a quick look at what we've been doing in your ITG supported multimedia classrooms.

New Touch Panel Feature

The touch panels in the rooms listed below have been updated. A new “Quick Start” feature has been added that will speed up your set-up time. Simply enter the panel's main page, tap the quick start button, and choose your configuration. With that one tap, your projectors will power on, the screens will come down, and your media of choice will display on the projectors and monitors. For those of you already familiar with Extended Desktop (Dual Presentation), you will find this feature on the quick start page.

 PRS RF Upgrade

Last year, Interwrite released a new version of their software, and a completely new way to collect responses. Interwrite's RF (radio frequency) clicker is far superior to the IR (Infrared) version. In response to this improvement in the technology, ITG has recommended that the new RF technology be introduced in PRS classrooms this Fall. Members of the Classroom Advisory Committee and Academic Affairs support the decision to run both IR and RF systems simultaneously until the majority of students have RF clickers. Henz 53 & 107

These two rooms in Henzlik Hall received a Facilities makeover, and ITG was there to provide all new technology. The rooms have new projectors, computers (both Mac and PC), document cameras, DVD/VCR, and laptop connections. All of this is controlled by the System 7 switcher located at the top of the equipment rack. If you are unfamiliar with the standard equipment in our classrooms, we would be happy to arrange a meeting with you.

Handheld Microphones

This Fall in select lecture halls, one handheld wireless mic will be available in addition to the lapel. We hope that you will find this to be a useful addition to the multimedia technology already in your room. These additional handheld mics will also consume batteries quickly, just as the lapels. Please be sure to turn off the mics when they are not in use, and store them in the drawer or pouch provided in your classroom.

Microsoft Office 2007

Classroom Support has upgraded classroom machines to the newest version of Microsoft Office. Office 2007 looks quite a bit different than the previous version. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the new version for class this Fall. You can take it for a “test drive” at www.office2007.com.

We have NOT upgraded any of our computers to the new Microsoft Vista operating system. There are some rather obvious problems with this upgrade so we are holding off until all the kinks are worked out. For more info on Vista, visit: is.unl.edu/vista.shtml
