Now Hear This!
Imagine you have a guest speaker visiting your rather large class in a lecture hall setting. You set your guest up with the lavalier mic to make it easy for everyone to hear him/her. Everything is working great, and the students seem really interested in what your guest has to say. Toward the end of the speech, hands start to raise as enthusiastic students wish to ask questions. You're thinking that you'll have to remember to book him/her for next semester, but your thought bubble pops when you realize that a soft spoken student has asked a question that nobody could hear. Now your esteemed guest is wandering up the aisle to make out the question, and must repeat it for the entire class to hear. This is a common occurrence, and for most it's not a big deal.
You, no doubt, try to engage in stimulating conversation with your students from time to time, so you try to get their attention with a series of questions. Wouldn't be great to walk around with a wireless handheld microphone so that the students own voice could be heard loud and clear, no need to repeat their question to the rest of the class. Your Classroom Support team has heard a number of these requests and we are making changes to accommodate you and your students.
This Fall in select lecture halls, one handheld wireless mic will be available in addition to the lavalier. We hope that you will find this to be a useful addition to the multimedia technology already in your room.
These additional handheld mics will also consume batteries quickly, just as the lavaliers. Please be sure to turn off the mics when they are not in use, and store them in the drawer or pouch provided in your classroom. We hope this will be a successful endeavor, but will pull the microphones from the rooms if they are abused or go missing.
Handheld mics currently available in HAH 104 & 110, RVB 123 & 124,
Special Event Microphones
Occasionally, groups have asked us to provide multiple microphones for special events. In the past, this meant dragging boxes of audio equipment to the room, and stringing lines of cable across the floor. This system worked, of course, but was time consuming, and the end result didn't look very professional. Classroom Support has installed additional handheld mic receivers in multiple lecture halls, frequently scheduled for these events. Any UNL organization can contact Room Assignments to schedule these rooms. If your are interested in utilizing the additional microphones, please call 472-5511 to reserve them for your event. *Just before the event, a member of our team will bring the mics to you and be sure that everything is working. A total of four handhelds and one lavalier are available in each of the following rooms.
Additional handheld mics currently available in OTHM 106, RVB 123 & 124,
*A support fee may be charged for assistance during evening or weekend events. To avoid the fee, make arrangements to meet with one of our team members in the room prior to your event. We are always happy to spend the time necessary to get you comfortable with the equipment.
